Gengis Khan and the Mongol Treasure - Exhibit in Treviso

An extraordinary exhibit spanning Chinese history from 960 to 1368 A.D. at the Ca dei Carraresi in Treviso from October 20, 2007 to May 4, 2008. The exhibit on display at Ca dei Carraresi is the second part of an ambitious project called The Silk Road and Chinese Culture which includes four biennial events providing a full picture on the history and art of the complex Chinese culture. It follows the first inaugurated in 2005, The Silk Road: the birth of the Celestial Empire. The upcoming exhibits. to be held in 2009 and 2011 respectively, will be The Splendor of the Ming Dynasty and Manchu, the last Empire.

Exhibit sections include: Steppe gold: dedicated to the precious creations of the Mongol populations in Northern China; porcelain, jewelry and harnesses for the essential animals for the Mongol civilization, the horse. The section also boasts the display of a princess' funeral jewelry. Gengis Khan and the Mongol Empire conquests: focused on one of the greatest leaders in history, exciting military equipment will be on display to reveal the era's battle techniques and weapons that permitted the Mongols to dominate their vast empire. Marco Polo's voyage and the triumphant Silk Road: under Gengis Khan's grandson, Kublai Khan's rule, the empire experienced a relevantly peaceful period with trade profitable along the famous Silk Road. This was the era when the Venetian merchant, Marco Polo, completed his incredible voyage. The mysteries of the dynasties behind the Great Wall: focused on the dynasties that lived on the borders with the Song lands, it displays finds from the period between 1000 and 1200 A.D. Bronze, porcelain, ceramics and bronze items narrate the period that witnessed the birth of Peking as capital. The most beautiful porcelain ever: created under the Song dynasty, which first succeeded in implementing political unity, the precious porcelain that embellish this section demonstrate the levels of technical and artistic refinery reached in the period between 960 and 1270.
